Cabinet Executive Branch:

Chief of Staff

  • Responsible for overseeing/managing all of Cabinet and its members

  • Will keep inventory of everything within SGA storage (the Cage) and the SGA office

  • Should be knowledgeable of all inner-workings of SGA (especially Cabinet)

  • Should be available to answer any Cabinet-related questions in the absence of the

    President

  • Must devote a significant amount of time to SGA on a weekly basis

  • Will report directly to the President

o It is preferred, but not required, that the Chief of Staff will also serve as the SGA Office Manager, who is responsible for managing the SGA office, answering phone calls at the main desk, stocking supplies for the office, and completing office hours on a weekly basis

Cabinet Secretary

  • Responsible for taking roll, keeping minutes of every Cabinet meeting, and sending minutes to every member of Cabinet

  • Will work with the Varsity Director to communicate/coordinate volunteer signup forms and Varsity training sessions

  • Will work with the President to record and distribute important information

  • Will coordinate the office hours for Cabinet

    Development & Morale

  • Designed to improve the SGA experience for all SGA members (especially in Cabinet)

  • Responsible for planning events and initiatives to improve Cabinet morale

  • Will host leadership development workshops for Cabinet

  • Will assist with planning SGA retreats and banquets

    Varsity

  • Responsible for coordinating and publicizing opportunities for all students to get involved with SGA through Varsity

    o Varsity is a new platform on SGA that allows all students (regardless of qualifications, SGA experience, or GPA) to volunteer with SGA events and initiatives, letting more students serve on and learn about SGA

  • Will work with Cabinet Directors and SGA Executive Officers to create and announce volunteer opportunities for students

  • Will work with the Cabinet Communications Branch to publicize Varsity involvement opportunities for all students

  • Will coordinate training sessions for Varsity volunteers prior to the events or initiatives in which they will serve

  • Will assist with branding Varsity

  • Must be available to communicate over the summer of 2018 to work on Varsity 

Events/Programming Branch:

Executive Director of Events

  • Responsible for overseeing all events hosted by Cabinet

  • Will hold regular meetings with all Event Directors to guide and assist in the planning of

    events

  • Will explain and answer questions regarding the contract for Event Directors

  • Should have experience with event planning and prior knowledge of SGA events

  • Will report directly to the Chief of Staff and President

    Eaglepalooza

  • Responsible for the planning, fundraising, promotion, and execution of Eaglepalooza

  • Will collaborate with other organizations and campus offices for Eaglepalooza

  • Should have experience in entertainment production and fundraising

  • Must be available during the summer of 2018 to plan, prepare, and fundraise for

    Eaglepalooza

    The Miss USM Pageant

  • Responsible for the planning, fundraising, promotion, and execution of the Miss USM Pageant

  • Will host Miss USM Pageant contestant interest meetings, practices, rehearsals, and pre- pageant events

  • Will support the 2018-2019 Miss USM throughout her reign and competition at the 2019 Miss Mississippi Pageant

    Homecoming

  • Responsible for planning, promoting, and executing all Homecoming events including weeklong programs and activities, philanthropy events, promotion events, and game-day events

  • Will work with the Alumni Association throughout the Homecoming planning process

  • Will assist the Parade and Court Directors

  • Must be available to communicate during the summer of 2018 to plan Homecoming

    Homecoming Parade

  • Responsible for organizing and planning the Homecoming Parade

  • Will work with campus and city officials to coordinate the parade

  • Will contact community organizations and businesses to encourage involvement in the

    parade

  • Will work with student organization teams to organize floats and schedule volunteers for

    the parade

  • Must be available to communicate during the summer of 2018 to plan Homecoming

Homecoming Court

  • Responsible for planning, promoting, and executing all Homecoming Court activities

  • Will meet with the Court regularly between the election and the Homecoming game-day

    to communicate information

  • Will coordinate Court appearances (i.e. Friday Night at the Fountain) and Court

    photographs

  • Will host the game-day reception in which the Court is recognized

  • Must be available to communicate during the summer of 2018 to plan Homecoming

    Lighting the Way

  • Responsible for planning, fundraising, promoting, and executing Lighting the Way for the Holidays at Southern Miss

  • Will work with the Alumni Association, community groups, businesses, and the City of Hattiesburg to host the annual holiday celebration

    The Big Event

  • Responsible for planning, promoting, and executing The Big Event

  • Will work with the Director of Outreach to communicate with city and campus

    organizations and businesses

  • Will secure job sites, recruit volunteers, coordinate teams, and organize supplies

Student Initiatives Branch:

Executive Director of Student Initiatives

  • Responsible for overseeing all Student Initiatives Directors and programs

  • Will hold regular meetings with all Student Initiatives Directors

  • Will explain and answer questions regarding the contract for Student Initiatives Directors

  • Should have experience with student initiatives and prior knowledge of SGA programs

  • Will report directly to the Chief of Staff and President

    It's On Us

  • Responsible for planning, promoting, and executing It’s On Us week and related events

  • Will work with the Cabinet Communications Branch to promote It’s On Us events

  • Will work with the Director of Health and Wellness to plan and execute events

  • Will aim to increase campus awareness of sexual assault

    Diversity

  • Serves as a student body representative in diversity affairs regarding faculty, staff, and students

  • Will work with multicultural organizations, the University Diversity Committee, The Office of Multicultural Services, and all branches of SGA to promote diversity and inclusivity on campus and within SGA

    Outreach

  • Responsible for fostering relationships and improving the line of communication between SGA and members of the Southern Miss community

  • Will utilize the Speak Up Southern Miss webpage, create and administer surveys, hold forums, and develop creative methods to reach out to students in order to determine student needs and wants

  • Will serve as the Chair of the SGA Outreach Committee, consisting of outreach representatives from each branch of SGA (Senate, Judicial Board, Philanthropy Commission, Election Commission, and Freshman Associates)

    o Will hold regular meetings for the SGA Outreach Committee to coordinate events, initiatives, and feedback

  • Will work with the Academic Affairs Director to communicate with students, collect feedback, plan programs, and aim to resolve campus issues

    Academic Affairs

  • Responsible for serving as a liaison between the academic colleges and the student body

  • Will stay up-to-date on university policies regarding academics

  • Will create and support initiatives to enhance academic success (i.e. Finish in 4 and the

    Student Success Initiative)

  • Will work with the Academic Affairs committee on SGA Senate to educate students

    about academic matters, collect feedback regarding academics, and aim to improve students’ academic experiences

Health & Wellness

  • Responsible for planning, promoting, and executing Mental Health Awareness Week

  • Will create various programs and initiatives throughout the term to increase campus

    awareness about health-related issues

  • Will work with campus health-related services including but not limited to Student

    Counseling Services and Student Health Services 

Communications Branch:

Executive Director of Communications

  • Responsible for overseeing the Communications Branch of SGA

  • Will hold regular meetings with all members of the Communications Branch

  • Will explain and answer questions regarding the contract for members of the

    Communications Branch

  • Will ensure that all members of the Southern Miss Community are aware of SGA

    initiatives, events, and actions

  • Will ensure that the image of SGA is upheld in a positive manner

  • Will serve as the liaison between University Communications and SGA

  • Will maintain all SGA communications until the next Executive Director of

    Communications is appointed and fully transitioned

  • Will report directly to the Chief of Staff and President

    Public Relations / Marketing

  • Responsible for developing creative methods to market and brand SGA

  • Will ensure that all SGA initiatives, events, and actions are marketed to the diverse

    Southern Miss Community

  • Will create and order promotional items for SGA

  • Will work with University Communications to design promotional posters and social

    media designs to promote SGA events and initiatives

    SGA Internal Communications

  • Responsible for communicating important information to and from all branches of SGA

  • Will attend as many meetings as possible for all branches of SGA, recording and

    reporting important information

  • Will share updates from all branches of SGA during Cabinet meetings

  • Will assist the Webmaster with updating the SGA Website for all branches

    Media (Printz & Local News)

  • Responsible for reporting information about SGA directly to The Student Printz, WUSM Radio, and all local media

  • Will reach out to local news and media to publicize SGA events, programs, accomplishments, and important activities

  • Will assist the President with coordinating press releases and official statements

  • Will work with SGA Senate to deliver legislation to The Student Printz and local media

Social Media

  • Responsible for maintaining the SGA Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts

  • Will develop creative methods to inform students about SGA events, initiatives, and

    actions via social media

  • Will help all branches of SGA design social media graphics to be used on the main SGA

    accounts

  • Should have knowledge of and experience with social media

  • Should have strong graphic design and written communication skills

    Webmaster

  • Responsible for managing and updating the SGA website

  • Will update the website on a weekly basis, finding creative methods to reach students

  • Will communicate with the SGA Executive Officers to update website information within

    their respective branches

  • Must have experience with website design and graphic design

  • Must be available during the summer of 2018 to revamp the website

    Photography/Videography

  • Responsible for digitally recording/photographing all SGA events and programs

  • Responsible for creating short videos to promote SGA events and initiatives

  • Should be present at all SGA events

  • Should have experience with photography and photo editing 

Freshman Associates Branch:

Executive Director of Freshman Associates

  • Responsible for overseeing members and Co-Directors within SGA Freshman Associates

  • Will hold regular meetings with FA Co-Directors to ensure they are promoting leadership

    development and strong retention for freshmen within FA

  • Will explain and answer questions regarding the contract for FA Co-Directors

  • Will assist with selecting freshmen to serve within FA

  • Will assist with planning the FA retreat

  • Will ensure members of FA are attending office hours and regular FA meetings

  • Will foster positive relationships between members of FA and SGA leaders

  • Will report directly to the Chief of Staff and President

  • Must be available to communicate over the summer of 2018 to prepare for FA

    Freshmen Associates Co-Directors

  • Responsible for serving as mentors and role-models to members of Freshman Associates

  • Will cultivate leadership development within members of FA, ensuring they have the tools and experiences necessary to prepare them for serving as future campus leaders

  • Will teach members of FA about all branches of SGA and Southern Miss, finding opportunities to gain experience with SGA leadership

  • Will help members of FA coordinate a program that will teach them event-planning, outreach, marketing, time management, and communication skills

  • Will assist with selecting freshmen to serve within FA

  • Must be available to communicate over the summer of 2018 to prepare for FA
