Lighting the Way
Lighting the Way, Southern Miss's youngest official tradition, is the Student Government Association's philanthropy event. The annual event is held following Thanksgiving to prepare Southern Miss and the Hattiesburg community for the holiday season. Lighting the Way festivities include decorating cookies, taking pictures with Santa, creating ornaments, and lighting the Christmas tree. Money is raised by selling lanterns to student organizations on campus, and at the end of the night, a charity of the Lighting the Way directors' choosing receives the total donation.
